Frequently Asked Questions

The Basics

What type of assessments are offered through PsychologyGroup?

We specialize in comprehensive evaluations for all life stages. Our primary services include Psychoeducational Assessments (for learning disabilities and giftedness), Adult Autism and ADHD Evaluations, and Mental Health Assessments for complex mood or personality-related concerns. Every assessment is tailored to meet the documentation standards required by Ontario schools, universities, and workplaces.

How long is your current waitlist?

One of our core pillars is Clarity Without the Wait. While public school boards and hospital waitlists can stretch from six months to two years, we typically move clients from their initial inquiry to their first appointment within days, not months.

What ages do you serve?

We provide a full lifespan of care starting from school-age through adulthood. Our clinical team includes specialists for pediatric assessments (ages 6+), adolescents, university students, and adults. Whether you are seeking to understand your child’s learning needs as they enter primary school, or you are an adult seeking a late-diagnosed autism or ADHD assessment, we have the age-appropriate tools and expertise to provide a clear clinical profile.

Is this an "official" medical diagnosis?

Yes. Because our reports are authored by Licensed Psychologists registered with the CPBAO, they constitute a formal clinical diagnosis recognized by the medical community. These documents are legally valid for accessing disability supports, specialized school placements (IEP/IPRC), workplace accommodations, and can be used by physicians or psychiatrists to guide treatment plans.

Cost & Coverage

Are your services covered by insurance?

Yes. As our assessments are conducted and supervised by Registered Psychologists in Ontario, our fees are typically covered under "Psychological Services" in most extended health benefit plans. We recommend checking with your provider to see if you have a Health Care Spending Account (HCSA) or a specific annual maximum for psychology.

Can these assessments help me access OSAP or BSWD funding?

Absolutely. For university and college students, our reports are designed to meet the rigorous clinical criteria for the Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) and the OSAP Disability Grant. These grants can often cover the cost of the assessment itself as well as ongoing equipment and tutoring support.

The Process

Do I need to come into a clinic, or is testing virtual?

We utilize a hybrid model to maximize your convenience. Intake consultations and feedback sessions are conducted via secure, PHIPA-compliant video calls. However, the standardized psychometric testing (Step 2) is usually conducted in person at one of our professional Ontario locations to ensure clinical accuracy and a controlled testing environment.

What if my child is too anxious to complete the testing?

Our psychometrists are specially trained to work with children and neurodivergent individuals. We prioritize a low-pressure environment where we take frequent breaks and move at your child’s pace. If we cannot finish in one session, we offer additional testing appointments at no extra cost to ensure we get an accurate picture of their potential.

Results & Impact

Will my school or employer actually accept this report?

Yes. We provide gold-standard clinical documentation. Our reports are crafted to satisfy the requirements for IEP (Individual Education Plan) and IPRC development in Ontario school boards, as well as formal workplace accommodation requests and disability tax credit applications.

What happens if I don't receive a diagnosis?

The goal of an assessment is clarity, not just a label. Even if you or your child do not meet the full diagnostic criteria for a specific condition, our reports provide a detailed map of cognitive strengths and weaknesses. You will still receive actionable strategies and recommendations for support that can be used in therapy, school, or daily life.

The Logistics

Do I need a referral from a family doctor?

No, you do not need a physician’s referral to access our services. You can self-refer by booking an initial consultation directly through our website. However, we recommend checking with your insurance provider, as some specific extended health plans require a doctor’s note to process your reimbursement.

How quickly will I receive my final report?

We know that timing is often critical for school deadlines or workplace filings. While some clinics take months to finalize paperwork, our streamlined process ensures you receive your comprehensive clinical report and academic summary within 1 to 2 weeks following your final testing session.

Specialized Testing

What is the difference between an ADHD Assessment and a Psychoeducational Assessment?

An ADHD assessment focuses specifically on executive functioning, attention, and diagnostic clarity for ADHD. A Psychoeducational Assessment is much broader; it includes ADHD testing but also evaluates intelligence (IQ), academic achievement (reading/math), and memory. If you need an IEP for school board support, a Psychoeducational Assessment is typically the required gold standard.

Do you offer Giftedness (GATE) testing for Ontario school boards?

Yes. We provide specialized cognitive testing for children who show signs of advanced intellectual potential. Our reports meet the criteria for Giftedness identification within Ontario boards (such as the TDSB or YRDSB), helping you secure appropriate placement and enrichment for your child’s education.

Privacy & Ethics

If I get an assessment for my teen, who owns the results?

In Ontario, the "rights" to the information depend on the age of consent and the capacity of the individual. Generally, for teens, we encourage a collaborative approach where parents are involved, but we also prioritize the teen’s privacy to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. We will discuss the specific privacy boundaries with your family during the Intake Consultation.

Will a diagnosis "label" me or my child for life?

A diagnosis is not a label; it is a key. In 2026, a formal diagnosis is a tool used to unlock legal protections, financial support, and a deeper understanding of how your brain works. Our reports are written with a strengths-based approach, focusing on how to use your unique cognitive profile to succeed, rather than focusing solely on "deficits."

After-Care

What happens after the assessment is over?

We don't leave you with a report and no direction. Your feedback session includes a "Roadmap for Success." If the results suggest that therapy, coaching, or medical intervention is needed, we can provide direct referrals to our internal therapy team or external specialists (like Occupational Therapists or Speech-Language Pathologists) to ensure you can start your treatment plan immediately.
